Psalm 93

The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
The Lord has clothed and girded Himself with strength;
Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved.
Your throne is established from of old;
You are from everlasting.

The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
The floods have lifted up their voice,
The floods lift up their pounding waves.
More than the sounds of many waters,
Than the mighty breakers of the sea,
The Lord on high is mighty.
Your testimonies are fully confirmed;
Holiness befits Your house,
O Lord, forevermore.

No plans

I had no plans going into this weekend. It's not like me. I like making social plans and getting fun friends together. It's part of who most of you know me to be. But this weekend, there wasn't a lot going on, so I sent out an email and suggested a movie. Nothing big. It would only take up two hours of the entire weekend.

But no plans turned out to be a wonderfully unexpected gift. Running with a friend at the lake. Lunch shared with much laughter. Kirby Queso late into the night. Frisbee Golf. Climbing the Big Tree.

And for that, I'm thankful to say good-bye to a good (but not easy!) 2007 and grateful to start 2008 in Austin.

I forgot what cold was

Christmas means Chicago. I grew up there, and my parents still live in the same house they bought in 1972, two years after they were married. My room looks like it did in high school, complete with tennis team, youth trip and homecoming pictures from over a decade ago. It's familiar territory, despite not having called it "home" since 1997.

One thing, however, that doesn't seem so familiar this time is the cold. I'm not talking cold like Austin cold, or even cold like Colorado. I'm talking eye-lash freezing Chicago cold. It was "warm" and in the 40s my first day in town but quickly dropped to the high teens...with windchill making it feel like it's zero-degrees.

Yeah, it's cold. I had forgotten what cold really feels like and don't miss it living in Austin.

How was your trip?

It's as if all along I was reading the Bible in black and white, not even realizing it, but experiencing Israel makes me now see Scripture in color.

Back Home

Returning from three weeks in Egypt and Israel, there's a lot to process. Pictures and stories to come...
