My New Hobby

I probably shouldn't call this a hobby quite just yet...but I'd like it to be!

One of my hobbies has been borrowing bikes. It was mostly mountain bikes in Colorado - Jennie's friend, Jeannie's for the summer, Anna's for the Moab girls weekend - all kinds of generous folks.

But now it's time to buy one of my very own, so I have a big decision to make: road bike or mountain bike?

Jen lent me her mountain bike a few weeks ago, and we went out to play on the trails of Walnut Creek. It was a good time.

Then Alyson let me borrow her road bike this weekend, and it was Jen first and then Rick who accompanied me all over the streets of Austin.

And I fell in love.

You should get a hybrid bike, also sometimes called a fitness bike.

"Mixing road bike efficiency with mountain bike utility, hybrid bikes offer the best of both worlds: comfort features, flat handlebars, 700c tires and plenty of zoom to zip you along the pavement." -rei.com

Werle! Two quick thoughts, you are after a bike that does something well, a hybrid does everything mediocre, but nothing truly well, except commuting. If you want to ride with roadies, get a road bike. If you are into hitting singletrack, then a mountain is the way to go. Regardless of which bike you end up with, adjust your helmet! A loose helmet can a lot of damage if you actually go down on a ride.

gosh i don't know what to say because i own both, and they are both awesome!! i love the thrill of mountain biking and how you gotta think of which line to take to make things easier.

and if i want a more relaxing ride where i can ride miles upon miles and enjoy the scenery, then i go road biking. although, with a road bike, you can do triathlons. not so much with a mountain bike. maybe THAT just answered your question. ;)

hey does your friend jen bike with ride like a girl? she looks awfully familiar...
